Dear Class,
How are you? I hope you got off to a good start with your new poetry books and are feeling good about starting your animal projects! Thanks Ray for sending in pictures of your hard work. I absolutely loved seeing what you have been up to!
Today we are continuing the theme of poetry for Language Arts and we are moving onto the next step for your animal projects!
Poetry: One thing you might know, is some poems rhyme. What is rhyming? Well, it’s when two words have a similar ending so they sound the same. Coat, boat - cake, bake - ring, sing - dog, log- cat, hat and so on.
Your mission this week is to make a short rhyming poem about a topic of your choosing. Candy, chocolate, soccer, trees, someone you love, Barbies...you name it, you can write a poem about it. I did several examples for you! Can you tell, I love poems! Check it out!
Candy
Candy, candy it’s incredibly sweet
If you eat too much it’ll rot your teeth
Halloween, Easter or really anytime
I will always give you some of mine
Chewy, crunchy, soft or sticky
When it comes to candy, I am never very picky!
Here is another example!
Nana and Papa
When I see your smiling faces
When you help me tie up my shoe laces
When you talk and sing you make me calm,
Nana and Papa, you’re ‘Da Bomb!’
Mom and Dad
Mom and Dad, you’re pretty rad
I love you even when I’m mad
Kisses, hugs and snuggles too
Every single day, I love you
And another one!
School
Teachers, principals, learning with friends
Can’t wait until we can hug each other again!
Singing songs, writing and art
School helps us learn and to become very smart!
Videos, Zoom Chats and projects sent
Learning online is really fun at Kent!
Little brother
Little brother, little brother, you’re really quite loud
No one could ever lose YOU in a crowd
Little brother, little brother, you’re really quite gross
Everyone has seen YOU pick your nose
Little brother, little brother, do you know
I really do love you so.
Don’t forget to ask for help from an adult or an older sibling on this! Do your best and have fun with it. Send me your poems to jessilee.schaff@sd78.bc.ca or jschaff@agassizsecondary.com. Also, feel free to read your poem and make a video of it! I’d love to see.
Science: This week we are learning a new word. That word is habitat. An animal’s habitat describes where they live. This week, your mission is to write 3-5 sentences that describe your animals habitat. Do you remember that my animal is a raccoon? Well, here are my facts about their habitat!
Habitat
1. Raccoons live in British Columbia and raccoons can be found living in Agassiz.
2. Raccoons live in all sorts of different climates such as warm, cold, snowy, rainy and sunny.
3. Raccoons live in trees or dens. Their favourite place to sleep is in holes in trees.
4. Sometimes raccoons live in unusual places like old abandoned cars, attics or crawl spaces under houses.
5. Raccoons live in cities and in the forest.
Let’s make a connection! In a way, you’re a type of animal. A human! What habitat do you live in? Are you in a city? On a farm? In an apartment? Do you have your own room, or do you share? Do you even go camping sometimes and change your habitat? Have a talk with an adult or older sibling about your habitat!
Stay tuned for more learning about poems and the next step for your animal projects!
Love,
Miss Schaff.
