Good Morning!
This week will be a test run to see if everyone is able to access the documents that I will share. You will need Adobe (free!) on your computer. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are not able to view the documents so I can help right away and/or adjust the way I am sharing. I would love to see pictures of your child's learning! I would also love to share some pictures of your child learning and their projects on the website. If you send me a picture, just let me know if it is private or if it is ok to share on the website. Please note that this website is not protected, and visible to everyone on the internet.
Don't forget to take a look at the Morning Routine and Online Resources!
WEEK ONE
Sight Words ran, but, pretty, so, what
Print or make your own sight word flashcards. Post them on the fridge, a door, or somewhere your child will see them. The key is repetition through the week.
Reading
This month our focus is Community, which ties in to the Grade One Social Studies curriculum. Please see right sidebar with reading group names. Your child will know their reading group. You should spend about 20 minutes per day on a lesson, in addition to the 20 minutes per day that your child reads independently.

It will take several days to work through this! If you would like to work on something a bit less intensive, ask your child to write 2-3 sentences about spring. All writing will require direct help from you - brainstorming words and writing key words for them. Encourage "inventive spelling" - having them sound words out and spelling them incorrectly. This not only gives them a sense of pride and independence, it's much better for their development. They will not learn anything if they are just copying your spelled words. Students will learn how to spell more words correctly as their reading advances and as they progress through school. Please use this portable word wall and add it to the writing duotang that I sent home. If you cannot print it, make your own! In class, I do expect students to use the word wall and spell those words correctly.
Math
I will be assigning math from the JUMP math book that I included in your child's take home package. If you are unable to pick up this package, please contact the office and they will get the package to you.

Pages 1-43 are review of some things we covered in Term 1 and Term 2. At the end of Term 2, we began to work on single-digit subtraction. Below is a general guideline of pages to complete this week. Please remember that completing more pages each day does not equal more learning. The most valuable part of your teaching will be the discussion.
Monday: 44-46
Tuesday: 47-49
Wednesday: 50-52
Thursday: 53-56
Friday: review, complete unfinished pages, work on the beginning of the book.
Mindfulness activity
Mindfulness activities can be a great way to calm anxiety and hyperactivity.
Mindfulness activities can be a great way to calm anxiety and hyperactivity.
Mindful Breathing: Sit down. Put both hands on belly. Close
eyes or look down at hands. Take three slow deep breaths, noticing your hands
being moved. Count 1, 2, 3 for each breath in and 1, 2, 3 for each breath out.
Quietly ask (answer in your mind): What is moving your hands? Is the air
filling your lungs? Can you feel the air moving in through your nose? Can you
feel it moving out through your nose? Can you hear your breath? What does it
sound like?
Fun Activity
Go on a nature walk and use this Spring Walk Bingo sheet to record what you see. This activity would be fun with siblings!
